That’s the theme of our Graduation Ceremony, which held May 29. It was nothing less than Super-Fantastic. The day came, and it was extremely great.
For those who came, it brought some things out from a different angle to us.
I recall when the students’ profile were being read, it got so many saying…whao whao whao. Skill is not just for the illiterate or someone who doesn’t want to study. Skill remains relevant to anyone who really wants to be a mover and shaker in the nation’s economy. If you sit waiting for that “Big Thing”, what if it never comes?…… how about you getting up to do something and make things happen.
We all want a better Nigeria, it will only happen when you and I start seeing ourselves as co-agents of that Change. Who will start it? – You! ; when? – when you get up and make the first move towards making a difference, no matter how small…Remember Ripple Effects. ..
I started one day, and here we are today, having trained almost or over 400 students in 4 years and still counting. … as well as using every opportunity and chance to impart some tangible knowledge in every youth I come across. And I won’t Stop! This is why we all are here, only if we choose to be Victors not Victims. ..
One of out special moments that day was making the world meet Mr Olasunkanmi Fagbemi. .. A promising young man I met late last year at a seminar where I was one of the speakers. I remember during the Q&A session, he asked if he could learn sewing, I gave him a yes. Not knowing this man will push further. Cutting the story short, this man joined the Academy late last year…. before the unfortunate incident that confined him to the wheelchair, he was a very successful businessman.
Mr Olasunkanmi picked up his life, learnt this skill and turned out to be one of the fastest students I’ve met, as well as the best and neatest Shirt maker in the Academy. What if he had given up on himself?
And on that day, his dreams came true, he was given a computerised sewing/embroidery/monogram machine, industrial iron, some starter kits and a scholarship to learn the full premium course at the academy with the assistance of Senator Teslim Folarin. We also thank every student who kicked off this initiative during our “Dress For Less” sales last December, that was where it all started. And the TKF team backed us up Big time on this.
Mr Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, saw the world, paid his dues, with plenty of scars and Yes, Nothing to lose..he’s sure on Top of the World, far above Disability and limitations…That song brought tears to our eyes that day.
He did it! What are you waiting for? What is that person around you idling around for?….. Start the Changes where you are!
