While growing up, every child grew to believe in Santa or “Father Christmas”. What made us believe them was the gifts, at least someone remembers we should get gifts and enjoy Christmas. It was fun, the Christmas spirit is always strong in every child’s heart.
Now I look back and see, not only kids love getting gifts, adults love to as well. Though it may not always happen :|. These thoughts and many more led me to a decision last year……
Plus the thoughts of how do I make my little contribution of making Christmas merry for those around me.
I met a man last year who made me appreciate the little things I overlooked. If you have been following our blog, you would have heard of Mr Sunkanmi ‘ s story. Who overcame his physical challenges, joined DGV Fashion Academy, and has turned out to be a great fashion designer today.
After Mr Sunkanmi joined us, knowing what took this man to get himself back after the accident and incidents that led to his being confined to a wheelchair, the idea of raising money to support his career came. We needed to get him a computerised sewing machine to ease his stress.
Then we thought of balancing the equations, we wanted to raise money and also we wanted to make some other people happy. That was how Dress-For-Less came up. We made clothes, beautifully made outfits and subsidised the total cost, sold them at lowest prices possible. Clothes that could worth #4000, went for #500,#800. We reduced to barest minimum and we were able to put smiles on other faces while we were also targeting another big goal.
The event came out well, we sold out and got part of the cash needed.
We added up and May 29 , 2014 during our Graduation ceremony, we surprised Mr Sunkanmi with the gift of a computerised sewing /Embroidery machine ,an industrial iron and more course time scholarship. (DRESS-FOR-LESS made it easier)
It was after this that he proceeded and mastered his Suit making Classes which has been his dream ever before he got involved in the accident. His joy that day knew no bounds, tears and emotions went through the Hall. Many were touched and encouraged……
We have thus decided to keep this Christmas spirit alive at DGV. We may not be able to reach everyone, but we can still do our part and Give Back to our community in the little ways we can . To put smiles on people’s faces again, we started over 4 months ago to sew and compile the clothes to sell at highly subsidised rates. Lovely Unisex outfits, for you. Part of the proceeds from this year’s sales will equally be used to empower someone, details to be unveiled after the event.
This Saturday, December 20th, Dress-For-Less 2014 holds at DGV Fashion Academy Inside D’Rovans hotel ( Walan Hotel ) Ring Road Ibadan, Oyo State. It’s one opportunity you should grab and get your Christmas clothes at an almost free price. It’s not used clothes, all were specially made for the sales. Get yourself one, get someone a gift too.
